Almost There
In less than one week, our world will change.
He’s almost there. The only way The Donald will not get in power is if he loses by a landslide from Kamala Harris. And that is not going to happen.
All the latest polls show that Trump and Harris are neck-and-neck in every swing state less than a week before the most important election day in recent history.
This means two things can happen: one, Trump wins and declares victory. Harris will concede, and that will be it for now. Two, Harris wins and declares victory. Trump also declares victory, and chaos ensues; probably for months on end. Sooner or later, Trump will have the backing of enough people willing to use violence to land him in the Oval Office. Either way, Trump wins.
The consequences are enormous. Not in the least for the American people themselves, especially women and girls. But on a global scale, the aftershocks will be even bigger.
The moment Trump wins - rightfully or not - Putin, Xi, and every other lurking authoritarian will grab whatever they can get their dirty little hands on. Putin will make a move on the Baltic states first. Xi will encircle Taiwan to start with.
Without a strong and decisive military response coming from the US, there are no consequences for illegal land grabs. Who’s going to stop the bullies? Certainly not the Europeans. Morally speaking, they would want to, but militarily speaking, they simply can’t. And it very much looks like no one else in the entire world is going to step up to the plate.
With the Russian and Chinese authoritarians leading the way, who knows what low-level dictator-wannabe will seize the moment of lull in American power to do whatever they please, inside or outside their own country?
I’ve said it before, I suspect we’ve already stumbled into World War III; we just haven’t named it as such. Tuesday, November 5, 2024, will be designated by future historians as the beginning of the end. The end of peace, democracy, and freedom as we’ve known it for the last seventy-nine years.
I know myself to be very pessimistic when it comes to geopolitical predictions. But when I see - usually pretty conservative - bankers, like Jamie Dimon of JPMorgan Chase, say that we’ve already entered World War III; when I see well-respected world-famous scholars like Robert Paxton grudgingly admit that, yes, Donald J. Trump does match the description of a fascist, well, then, how shall I put it… “fingers crossed”.
